How to make palak curry?
Ingredients:
Ingredients for Palak curry
- 200 grams Spinach, washed and finely chopped
- 2 Tomatoes, cut into large pieces
- ½ teaspoon Cumin seeds
- ½ teaspoon Garam masala powder
- 1 teaspoon Butter
- ¾ cup Water
- Salt to taste
- Oil for cooking
For the onion paste
- 2 medium Onions, medium diced
- 2 cloves of Garlic
- 1-inch Ginger, diced
- 2 green Chillies
For the besan mixture
- 2 tablespoons Besan (Gram flour)
- 1 teaspoon Cumin powder
- ½ teaspoon Coriander powder
- ½ teaspoon Turmeric powder
- ¼ cup Water
Instructions:
- First wash the spinach thoroughly under the running water and strain the excess water. Finely chop the spinach and keep them aside.
- Add the onion chunks, garlic, ginger cubes, green chillies into a jar of a mixer grinder and close the lid. Run the mixer grinder for 1-2 minutes till smooth paste. Keep the paste aside.
- To make the besan mixture, take a bowl and add 2 tablespoons besan in it.
- Add 1 teaspoon cumin powder, ½ teaspoon coriander powder, ½ teaspoon turmeric powder and mix all the dry ingredients evenly.
- Add ¼ cup of water slowly into the mixture and make a smooth lumps free paste. Keep the mixture aside.
- Add Oil into the pan and wait until the Oil is hot.
- Add Cumin seeds into the pan and allow them to crackle.
- Add Onion paste and mix it nicely.
- Cook it in medium flame for 5-6 minutes until the onion paste releases oil.
- Add tomatoes and cook it in medium flame for another 2-3 minutes.
- Add finely chopped spinach (Step 1) into the pan and give a nice mix.
- Add salt and cook it in medium flame for a minute.
- Cover the pan and cook them in low flame for 4-5 minutes.
- Add the besan mixture (Step 5) into the pan and give a nice stir.
- Cook it in medium low flame for 2-3 minutes until the raw smell of the mixture disappears. Stir frequently or else it may stick to the bottom.
- Add water and give a nice stir.
- Put the flame in high until the curry simmers. Then put the flame in low.
- Add garam masala powder, butter into the pan and give a nice stir.
- Cook it in lowest flame for few more seconds and then switch off the flame.
