While I was in India, I did not hear much about Pasta recipes with Avocados. In fact, I never even tried Avocados while I have been there. I have seen them in the exotic fruit section of supermarkets but never thought of picking them in my basket. Yes, Avocados are fruits and not vegetables. They are also known as Alligator Pear.
After coming to the UK, I have seen the huge popularity and availability of Avocadoes in supermarkets as well as vegetable shops. One day, I bought a Spicy Avocado-Chicken Wrap and I loved the creamy element of the wrap. This is when I first discovered the taste of Avocados. I liked its taste so much that I have now been addicted towards the super creamy fruit.
I can have it in any form whether it is used in sandwich, wrap, pasta, salad, rice or as basic Guacamole, does not matter. I just love the velvety texture of the fruit.
First time I had the Avocado Pasta was in a family get together at my husband’s British colleague’s house. I loved the preparation very much. It was so creamy and delicious that I could not stop myself to devour. Then I tried this recipe couple of times at home and then started experimenting new things into the recipe. Avocado-Spinach Pasta is one of the happily successful results of my experiments.
Avocado-Spinach Pasta is an incredibly easy to prepare recipe. It hardly takes 15-20 minutes to get ready to your bowl. Yes, it’s a super quick recipe which can rescue you from any tough situations like sudden guest or even when you are over stressed. It requires only few easily available ingredients to prepare this extraordinarily delicious dish.
My family loves the preparation asks me to prepare this dish at least once in a month. The vibrant green colour attracts the little food critic of my house. All in all, it’s a complete recipe and nothing can go wrong with it if you have picked the perfectly ripe Avocados.
How to prepare perfect Avocado-Spinach Pasta?
- For perfect texture, it is very important to choose a sauce friendly type of pasta for the recipe. So, I have chosen Spaghetti for the dish.
- Spaghettis get mixed up with sauce very easily and evenly. In every bite, it has the perfect balance of sauce with pasta.
- Try to prepare the sauce with all fresh ingredients rather than frozen ones.
- Always use freshly prepared sauce for the dish for best taste and visibility. As it is an Avocado based sauce and that Avocados have the tendency to turn brown while it meets air, so the freshness of the sauce is very important here.
- Always mix the sauce in hot pasta before it gets sticky. It will mix up evenly.
Before jumping into the recipe, I would like to share few interesting tricks and tips to choose perfect Avocados for any preparation and its health benefits with you.
How to choose Avocadoes for any dish?
- Always choose ripe and ready to eat Avocadoes for best results but make sure they are firm in texture.
- Press the avocadoes with your finger and if you feel that it’s going inside too easily or is too soft from inside then it’s too ripe and can end up being mushy which we never want.
- If the Avocadoes are bright green in colour and the skin is too hard then those are not ready to eat.
- If you have enough time, then you can buy green raw Avocadoes and wrap them in paper for 1-2 days. They will be ready to use.
- The perfectly ripe and firm Avocadoes have dark skin colour than normal ones. If you press the skin and it yields pressure, then it’s perfect for use.
Health benefits of Avocadoes
- Avocados are full of good fats, nutrients and fibre.
- It is a good source of Potassium which helps to control blood pressure level.
- Avocadoes are great source of monounsaturated oleic acid which are extremely beneficial for our heart.
- Its fibre helps to reduce weight and great for our metabolism.
- Avocados are powerhouse of antioxidants which are boon for our eyesight.
In this preparation, first I have boiled the Spaghetti in salted water. Then I have poured the cooked Spaghettis into a colander to drain away all the water.
For the sauce, other than Avocados, I have also used Spinach and Cilantros. They give a dazzling green colour to the sauce.
I have used Lemon juice, Garlic powder and crushed black Pepper for flavouring. If you don’t have Garlic powder, you can also use garlic cloves instead of that.
I have added Olive oil to give a perfect texture to the sauce.
At the end, I have added my secret ingredient i.e. fried Onions. It enhances taste, flavour and gives a perfect crunch to the dish. I just love the flavour of fried Onions with the dish. You can add your preferable favourite sides too.

Ingredients:
- A handful of Spaghetti
- 1 ripe Avocado, peeled and stoned
- 15-20 leaves of Spinach
- 4-5 branches of Cilantro
- 1 tablespoon Lemon juice, freshly squeezed
- 2 tablespoons of fried Onions
- ½ teaspoon Garlic powder or 2-3 Garlic cloves
- ½ teaspoon Black Pepper, crushed
- 2-3 tablespoons Olive oil
- Salt to taste
Instructions:
- Put water to boil in a utensil and add some Salt.
- When the water is about to boil, add Spaghetti to boil according to package instruction.
- Once the Spaghetti is boiled, strain away the water and transfer into a bowl.
- Cut the Avocado into half.
- Stick the knife on the stone and rotate to destone the Avocado.
- With the help of a spoon, scoop out the flesh from the skin.
- Put those Avocados into a mixer or blender.
- Add Oil, Spinach, Cilantro, Lemon juice into the mixer or blender.
- Blend it until the Avocado becomes smooth.
- Add Garlic powder, Salt, Pepper and blend again for 15-20 seconds.
- Pour the blended mixture into the bowl of Spaghetti.
- Toss the spaghetti until they get coated with the sauce evenly.
- Sprinkle some fried Onions on the top and mix it nicely.
Serving Instruction
Transfer the yummy Avocado-Spinach Pasta into serving bowl and serve immediately before it turns brown for the best taste, texture and visibility. Enjoy the colourful healthy dish with your favourite side.
