Boondi chaat aka masala boondi recipe is a crispy, spicy, vegan snack recipe loaded with flavours. It is a super easy to make, quick and fuss free recipe. In this preparation, boondi is mixed with onion, tomatoes, coriander leaves, green chillies and some spices. Masala boondi chaat is a healthy, nutritious and luscious chaat recipe which can be served as an appetizer or tea time snacks. It could be a perfect option for sudden guests.

What is boondi?

Boondi is basically a water droplet sized deep fried snacks prepared with gram flour aka besan batter. There are varieties of boondis that are available in market with different taste and flavour. In this recipe, I have used crispy savoury plain boondi for the recipe.

Boondi is one of the most versatile elements which is used in myriad chaat recipes to enhance the taste and texture of the dish.

Indian street food has always been a centre of attraction in Indian cuisine. Especially, recipe for chaat plays a remarkable and unforgettable part in it. Recipes of Chaat is known for its amazing flavours, different layers of texture and combinational taste which tickles all the taste buds of mouth and dominates the senses. All these reasons have been drooling people for chaat recipes since decades. Though it is easily available in every small towns, cities and villages of India, but people never feel enough or get bored of it.

First time, I had this wonderful masala boondi recipe in one of the chaat centres of Pune and I just loved the preparation. It was so delicious, full of flavours and easy to make. Then I have decided to prepare it at home and it came out pretty well. Everyone just loved the boondi chaat and now it has become one of our frequently served tea time snacks.

The best part of the recipe is that if you prepare it at home then you can customise the ingredients according to your own choice. It not only makes the chaat yummier but also gives an inner satisfaction too. A homemade snack is undoubtedly much healthier than the ones bought from somewhere else. All you need is a packet of readymade boondi to prepare the boondi chaat recipe and need to mix all the ingredients together.

Boondi chaat can be prepared in two different ways.

  1. Dry boondi chaat – without using tamarind chutney and green chutney
  2. Dahi boondi chaat – using yogurt, tamarind chutney and green chutney

Today, I am going to share the first version of boondi chaat recipe which is without using any chutney.

Boondi chaat aka masala boondi recipe is very simple and easy to make. It gets prepared very quickly and can be prepared in big batches without investing any extra time and effort. So, it is a perfect snack for any get together, kitty parties and small birthday parties. To save time and effort, you can chop the veggies and keep it aside to make the chaat handy before your guests arrive. You just need to mix all the ingredients together in front of them and serve your guests immediately. It’s a matter of few minutes to make a plate of masala boondi recipe if all the ingredients are ready.

Tips to prepare perfect boondi chaat
  • To get crispy boondi chaat, always serve them immediately or else the boondi will become soggy if it sits for longer. The moisture present in the veggies will turn the boondi soggy slowly.
  • If you are using masala boondi then you can skip the spices from the recipe. But for plain boondi, the spices are necessary.
  • You can add choice of you veggies like carrots, cucumber other than onion, tomato, green chilli, coriander leaves for the recipe.

How to make boondi chaat?

To prepare the boondi chaat recipe, it is very important to assemble all the ingredients before you start plating.

First chop the onions, tomatoes, green chillies, coriander leaves and keep them aside.

Then take boondi in a large mixing bowl. Add chopped onion, tomatoes, green chillies, coriander leaves and fresh lemon juice, one by one into the bowl and mix them nicely.

Then sprinkle some chaat masala, black salt and red chilli powder, one by one into the bowl and mix them evenly with the a spoon. The combination of all these spices give a perfect flavour to the chaat recipe. Now the boondi chaat is ready to serve.

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups Boondi
  • 1 small Onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small Tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 green Chilli, finely chopped
  • 2-3 tablespoons Coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • ½ tablespoon fresh Lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Chaat masala
  • ¼ teaspoon black Salt
  • ¼ teaspoon red Chilli powder



Instructions:
  1. Take a large bowl and add 2 cups boondi into it.
  2. Add chopped onion, tomatoes, green chillies and coriander leaves, one by one into the bowl.
  3. Squeeze ½ tablespoon fresh lemon juice into the bowl and mix them nicely with a spoon.
  4. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon chaat masala, ¼ teaspoon black salt and ¼ teaspoon red chilli powder, one by one into the bowl and mix them evenly with the a spoon.
  5. Now the boondi chaat is ready to serve.


Serving Instruction

Serve the boondi chaat recipe immediately after preparing. Enjoy the healthy salivating snack with your family and friends with lots of gossips.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Boondi
