Deviled eggs are basically hard-boiled eggs that are shelled and cut lengthwise in halves. Then the egg yolk is scooped out and mixed with other ingredients like mayonnaise, mustard, seasoning etc and again the mixture is filled into the egg whites.

The term deviled for food was first introduced in the 18th century. Later it has often used for spicy or zesty food. The addition of black pepper, mustard and paprika are enough to make the dish name deviled eggs.

Easter has arrived at our doorstep. Hence, today I have come up with one of the most popular easter appetizers recipes deviled eggs recipe classic. Easter is all about easter bunny and egg hunt. Kids are always excited for the egg hunt and the addition of this moreish in your easter menu will definitely bring a smile to your little ones’ faces.

How to boil an egg perfectly?

Perfectly boiled eggs are the key ingredient for the deviled eggs recipe. It is very important not to over boil the eggs and get the green strains on egg yolk. Honestly, no one likes it. So it is very important to boil the eggs perfectly.

Put a pan on flame and add enough water into it. Cook it over a high flame until the water starts boiling. Then put the flame in low and add the eggs slowly into the water. Put the flame in high and boil it for exact 10 minutes. Switch off the flame and immediately transfer the eggs into cold water and wait for 10 minutes. Let the eggs cool down completely before peeling the shell. This is how you can get perfectly boiled eggs.


How to peel boiled eggs?

Many people face difficulty during the time of peeling boiled eggs because the shell gets stuck to the egg whites. There are a few hacks to peel the boiled eggs properly without any difficulty.

  • Don’t use fresh eggs to prepare deviled eggs. Wait for a couple of days and then use it. Sometimes it is difficult to peel fresh eggs.
  • Don’t even use very old eggs too. Try to use 2-3 days old eggs for the recipe.
  • Allow the boiled eggs to cool down completely before peeling.

Variation in deviled eggs

Today, I have shared the classic deviled eggs recipe with you but different ranges of variations can be done to the recipe. You can make them spicier, savoury and slightly sweet, according to your own preferences. Here are a few simple variations that can be done

  • Instead of mayonnaise, you can add Greek yogurt, sour cream etc.
  • Instead of Dijon mustard, you can also use yellow mustard, horseradish mustard, hot German mustard etc.
  • For the tangy touch, you can use vinegar, pickle juice instead of lemon juice.
  • You can add chopped shallots, onions, chives into the egg yolk mixture.
  • You can also use smoked paprika, curry powder or canyon paste instead of paprika.
  • You can add variations of herbs like dill, basil etc. for the recipe.
  • You can top the deviled eggs with bacon, minced peppers, sliced jalapeno or olives etc.

How to make deviled eggs recipe

To prepare the deviled eggs recipe classic first, you would need to boil the eggs perfectly. Bring a pot of water to boil and then turn the flame low. Add the eggs carefully into the water with a skimmer so that the eggs don’t crack. Turn the flame high and allow it to boil for exactly 10 minutes.

During that time make a large bowl ready filled with cold water. Then drain the eggs and immediately place them in a cold water-filled bowl. Let the eggs sit for 10 minutes to cool down completely.

Then peel the eggs and slice them lengthwise into halves. Scoop out the egg yolk with a spoon and keep them in a separate bowl. Place the egg whites on a plate.

Mash the egg yolks with a fork and add mayonnaise, dijon mustard, salt, black pepper and lemon juice, one by one into the bowl. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly till it’s smooth.

Add the deviled egg mixture back to the hole of each egg white with the help of a spoon. You can also transfer the deviled egg mixture into a piping bag and fill the hole of each egg white for a fancy look.

Sprinkle some paprika and dill on the top for some extra flavour. Now your deviled eggs recipe classic is ready to serve.

  • ¼ teaspoon black Pepper powder
  • Salt to taste
