How to cook Red Lentils – For the recipe?
In this red lentil recipe, first, I washed the dal properly and then pressure cooked it in salted water for 2 whistles. The numbers of whistles may vary due to the temperature of the hob, quantity of dal, quality of the dal, quality of the utensils, different altitude etc. For the sake of saving time, I have used pressure cooker. You can also boil the dal directly in kadai but it will take a bit longer to get cooked.
In this preparation, I have used Carrots, Peas, Tomatoes and green Chillies. I have used frozen Peas here, but fresh Peas can also be used. Tomatoes add a bit of tanginess to the taste of the dal.
For tempering, I have used Cumin seeds and Cinnamon sticks which adds a nice aroma to the Oil. For flavouring, I have added Cumin powder, Coriander powder and Garam Masala powder to flavour up the dal. I have added some chopped Cilantros too. It complements the flavour of the dish.
