Sauteed mushrooms with garlic aka garlic mushroom is a buttery-flavoured vegetarian appetizer which is crazily popular around the world for its unique taste, extraordinary flavour and texture. These pan-seared mushrooms are cooked in butter with some chopped onions, garlic and a few selected herbs. This versatile moreish can be served as a side with bread, risotto, roasted chicken or pork, steak and even rice.

What is garlic mushroom?

Garlic mushroom the name itself explains about the recipe. The word garlic is used to flavour up the mushroom which is sautéed in butter. Hence, it’s named so. This garlic butter mushrooms is a staple which is regularly prepared in households and served in many restaurants, pubs, bristo etc.


Mushroom Recipe

A mushroom recipe plays a vital role in vegan and vegetarian food. Mushroom is considered one of the most popular vegetables in vegan and vegetarian dishes. There are different ranges of mushroom recipes that are frequently prepared in almost every restaurant and house which makes mushrooms an inimitable part of numerous cuisine.

Mushroom is a very versatile vegetable. It is tender in texture with a mild earthy flavour. It gets cooked very quickly. So, it is considered as a perfect vegetable for busy working days. It is used in myriad recipes in different forms of cooking like baked, roasted, boiled, stir-fried, etc.

I am a die heart fan of mushrooms and can have them in any form. Whenever I go to any restaurant, I always make sure to order a mushroom recipe. For most vegetarians and vegans, mushrooms are widely popular in main courses as well as snacks.

The first time I had this exemplary mushroom starter was at one of my European friend’s birthday parties. I just loved the flavour, texture and taste of the garlic mushrooms. I had tasted many other mushroom starter recipes before but had never tasted this one earlier.

These sauteed mushrooms with garlic are very simple and easy to make. It gets prepared very quickly without investing much effort. It requires minimal ingredients to get prepared and all the ingredients are easily available in any supermarket. The best part of the recipe is that you can prepare it in large portions without investing any extra effort and time.


Ingredients for garlic mushroom

Mushroom: The primary ingredient of the recipe which provides a base for it. I have used thinly sliced mushrooms for the recipe.

Onion & Garlic: These are the most common ingredients used to give texture and flavour to the mushrooms.

Red chillies & coriander leaves: Red chillies add a fruity flavour and coriander leaves add a refreshing aroma to the dish.

Mixed herbs: The addition of mixed herbs add a nice earthy flavour to the dish.

Ground black pepper: For the ground spices, I have only used black pepper powder. It adds a nice flavour and a heaty taste to the dish.

Malt vinegar: It enhances the flavour and colour of the dish.

Salt: The basic ingredient of any savoury recipe which adds a salty taste to the dish.

Butter & Oil: I have used salted butter for the recipe. But unsalted butter can also be used for the recipe. I have used a little bit of olive oil along with butter so that the butter does not burn.

  • It contains a good amount of vitamin B and vitamin D.



Tips to prepare perfect garlic mushroom
  • To get the perfect textured garlic mushroom recipe, it is very important to clean them properly. You can clean each mushroom with a damp cloth or paper towel or else rinse them quickly under cold water and immediately pat dry them with a kitchen towel. Mushrooms are like sponges. You can’t keep them in water for longer or else they will soak water and the garlic mushroom will become soggy.
  • Garlic mushroom is always cooked in butter for an extraordinary flavour and taste. Don’t replace it with oil. If you are health conscious then you can use 1:1 butter and oil for the recipe.
  • Always add a little bit of oil with butter so the butter doesn’t burn.
  • Try to use smaller size mushrooms for the recipe to get the best result.
  • To get perfect brown mushrooms, it is important to cook them over medium flame and don’t stir it frequently. Allow the mushrooms to become brown and then turn them and wait for the other side to become brown.
  • The addition of mixed herbs enhances the flavour and taste of the dish.

How to make garlic mushroom?

To prepare garlic mushroom, first clean the mushrooms and chop the onions, garlic, chillies, coriander leaves and keep everything ready.

Put a pan on flame and wait until the pan becomes completely dry. Add butter and a little bit of oil to the pan and allow it to melt and bubble.

Add chopped white onions into the pan and give a nice mix. Then add the cleaned mushrooms and mix them evenly. Turn the flame to medium and allow the pan-side-down mushrooms to become brown. It takes around 4-5 minutes. Then flip the mushrooms and cook for another 3-4 minutes over medium flame.

Add the chopped garlic, sliced red chillies into the pan and mix it well. Now turn the flame low and cook it for 2-3 minutes so the mushroom can absorb the garlic flavour properly.

Then add malt vinegar, salt, black pepper powder, and mixed herbs, one by one into the pan and mix it well. Cook it over low flame for a minute.

Add chopped coriander leaves into the pan and mix it well. Switch off the flame and put the pan down.

Ingredients:

1 cup = 250 ml

  • 400 grams Mushrooms
  • 1 large white Onion, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons chopped Garlic
  • 1 red Chilli, sliced
  • 3-4 tablespoons Coriander leaves or Parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon mixed Herbs
  • ¼ teaspoon black Pepper powder
  • 1 teaspoon malt Vinegar
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 tablespoons Butter
  • 1 teaspoon Oil



Instructions:
  1. Put a pan on flame and wait until the pan becomes completely dry.
  2. Add 3 tablespoons butter and 1 teaspoon oil into the pan and allow it to melt and bubble.
  3. Add chopped white onions into the pan and give a nice mix.
  4. Add the cleaned mushrooms and mix them evenly.
  5. Turn the flame to medium and allow the pan-side-down mushrooms to become brown. It takes around 4-5 minutes. Then flip the mushrooms and cook for another 3-4 minutes over medium flame.
  6. Add the chopped garlic, sliced red chillies into the pan and mix it well. Now turn the flame low and cook it for 2-3 minutes so the mushroom can absorb the garlic flavour properly.
  7. Add 1 teaspoon malt vinegar, salt, ¼ teaspoon black pepper powder, and 1 teaspoon mixed herbs, one by one into the pan and mix it well. Cook it over low flame for a minute.
  8. Add 3-4 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves into the pan and mix it well.
  9. Switch off the flame and put the pan down.


Serving Instruction

Transfer the garlic mushroom to a serving bowl on a serving plate. Serve immediately to enjoy the best taste. Serve hot or warm with your favourite side and enjoy the yummy delight.
