About the recipe

I have been very fond of different types of Biscuits since childhood. I still remember how my Dad used to bring different ranges of biscuits from shops and bakeries for me. Still now, I have the habit of munching biscuits in my free time and these cheese biscuits are one of my all-time favourite.

I used to have cheese biscuit with warm milk during my school days. I just loved to have it that way. Now the warm glass of milk has changed to a hot cup of tea but my habit of having these biscuits is still the same.

I have never tried any recipe for biscuit before coming to the UK because my native town is full of bakeries and I used to get different varieties of Bakery biscuits there. But after coming here, I have seen baking is a part and parcel of everyone’s life and they enjoy it. Then I followed the same trend and started my journey of baking biscuits at home. During this journey, I have realised one thing very clearly that biscuit recipe homemade gives much more satisfaction than market-bought ones.

Recipe for savoury cheese biscuits is very simple and easy to make. It requires very limited and easily available ingredients to get prepared. The best part of preparing cheese biscuits is that it gets prepared very quickly without investing much time and effort.

Ingredients for white chocolate chip cookies

All-purpose flour: One of the primary ingredients of any biscuit or cookie recipe.

Cheddar cheese: Another important ingredient which provides taste and flavour to the biscuit recipe.

Butter: Another most important ingredient for the biscuit recipe. I have used salted butter at room temperature for the recipe.

Water: Water is used to prepare the dough.

Savoury cheese biscuits with step-by-step photos and instructions have been provided in the ‘Instruction’ section of the recipe. If you follow each step of my recipe precisely then you will get the recipe for biscuit which will taste better than the market-bought ones. But before directly jumping into the recipe, let me share a few interesting things about the recipe.

Tips to prepare perfect cheese savoury biscuit
  • Always use cold butter for the recipe. Don’t use melted butter for the recipe.
  • I have used salted butter for the recipe but if you are using unsalted butter then don’t forget to add ¼ teaspoon of salt to the dough.
  • Try to use cheese blocks and freshly grate them for maximum flavour.
  • After preparing the cookie dough, it is very important to refrigerate it for at least 30 minutes for better flavour and texture.
  • Use parchment paper over the dough to roll or it may stick to the rolling pin.
  • These cheese biscuits will not expand and increase their size so keeping 1-inch distance from each other during the time of baking is enough.

How to make cheese biscuits?

For the cheese biscuits recipe, first take a large mixing bowl and add cold butter cubes into it. Then add grated cheddar cheese into the bowl. Mix both ingredients with the help of a hand mixer at medium speed until it turns creamy and smooth.

Now, add the all-purpose flour to the butter-cheese mixture in small portions and combine it slowly with hand mixer. I have added some water too to make the biscuit dough.

Then cover the dough with cling film and refrigerate it for one hour.

Preheat the oven and line the baking tray with wax paper before baking the biscuits.

Then to make cheese biscuits, take out the dough and remove the cling film. Place the dough on parchment paper and place another piece of parchment paper over the dough. Roll the dough to around 1.5 cm thick and cut it with the help of a cookie cutter.

Place the biscuit dough on the parchment paper-lined baking tray. Keep 1-inch distance between each biscuit. Then transfer the baking tray into the middle of the preheated oven at 180°C/160°C fan for 18-20 minutes.

If you like soft cookie-type cheese biscuits, then you can bake them for a lesser time around 16-18 minutes. But if you like crispy and crunchy biscuits then bake them for longer around 19-20 minutes. For cheese biscuits, I always prefer the crispy texture.

Take out the tray from the oven and very carefully transfer the baked cookies to wired racks to let them cool down completely. Then store them in an airtight container for a week.
